Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment will my hospital or clinic need in order to connect to the telemedicine platform?

All that is needed for connection to our network is a Windows PC with Internet access, a webcam and a microphone. We recommend a Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 for the video and a Jabra 7410 USB Speakerphone for the audio. We can test any webcam and/or microphone you may have to see if they would be appropriate for our solution.

Is there a fee to use the platform?

In most cases, technology fees associated with providing access for the physician are included in the cost of the consult. Any additional costs to the facility will vary based on the unique needs of the hospital or clinic, depending on their existing telemedicine systems. The fees required to use the platform are typically no different from the fees associated with secure internet access.

Is the telemedicine consultation secure?

Yes. All communication is sent using a 128-bit AES encryption. The system requires your facility and our physicians to authenticate their identity before granting access.

Is your platform HIPAA/HITECH Act compliant?

Yes. We consider the security of protected health information to be of utmost importance and work directly with the facility representatives to ensure all connections are secure. While each situation is unique, we are committed to providing telemedicine services in accord with HIPAA and HITECH standards.

Is it likely that I will need to make adjustments to my internal network/firewall?

No. However, if adjustments are needed, Virtual Medical Staff will assist you with making the necessary changes in order to ensure a secure online environment.

Do you offer technical support?

Yes. Virtual Medical Staff employs trained IT professionals to be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help with technical difficulties relating to the equipment and connectivity that we provide.

Is my existing camera and microphone compatible with your telemedicine platform?

Almost any third-party webcam or PC-based video conferencing equipment will work. We can test any webcam and/or microphone you may have to see if they would be appropriate for our solution.

Are Mac operating systems supported?

Yes. Our solution supports Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) through OSX 10.9 (Mavericks).
