Gastroenterology Locum-to-Perm Opportunity – Prestonsburg, Kentucky

Job description

A welcoming hospital in Prestonsburg, KY is seeking a Gastroenterologist for a locum-to-permanent opportunity with a strong preference for a consistent long-term provider. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collegial team and build meaningful patient relationships in a high-need community.

Assignment Details:

Duration: 12-month assignment with intent to convert to permanent
FTE Flexibility: Open to two providers alternating weeks, but strong preference for one consistent provider
EMR: Meditech

Schedule:

Clinic Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Call: Shared with another provider
Offsite call (30-minute response for emergencies; 12 hours for routine)
Called in after hours approximately 1–2 times per week
Most common call reason: active GI bleeds

Practice Setting:

Hospital-based practice
APP support provided
Average 12–14 procedures per day

Procedures Required:

General GI:
EGDs
Colonoscopies
Advanced Procedures:
ERCP (moderate complexity required)
EUS and EMR not required

Additional Procedures Include:

Stent placement (esophageal, duodenal, luminal)
Argon plasma coagulation
Esophageal dilation
PEG placement
Foreign body removal
GI bleeding management (non-variceal)
Flexible sigmoidoscopy
Motility studies and pH monitoring
Biopsies across GI tract

Patient Population:

Adult patients with high acuity and complex needs
Community setting where patients may require additional education and support
Providers with strong communication and relationship-building skills will thrive

Credentialing:

Estimated ~90 days, including Medicare & Medicaid enrollment

Interview Process:

Virtual interviews with service line leadership and OR team
Opportunity to discuss procedural scope, workflow, and call expectations in detail
