Registered Nurse – PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
📍 Boston Medical Center – Boston, MA
🕒 PM Shift | 12-Hour Nights | 36 Hours/Week
📅 Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM | Every 3rd weekend & holiday as needed | No on-call required
🔄 May float to Moakley PACU as needed
Job Summary:
Boston Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled and experienced **Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse** to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in Phase I recovery of complex surgical cases and demonstrate strong clinical judgment and autonomy in critical care nursing.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive nursing care during the post-anesthesia recovery phase, focusing on patient safety, comfort, and stabilization.
Care for a diverse patient population including adult and pediatric cases.
Monitor and manage patients post-operatively from complex surgeries such as **neuro, thoracic, vascular, ortho-spine**, and trauma.
Interpret and respond to telemetry rhythm strips, including accurate identification of arrhythmias and heart blocks (required skill).
Collaborate with surgical, anesthesia, and other interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care.
Maintain accurate documentation, administer medications, and follow all safety protocols and infection control standards.
Float to Moakley PACU as needed based on staffing needs.
Participate in weekend and holiday rotation (every 3rd weekend and holiday).
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years of recent PACU experience with proven expertise in Phase 1 recovery.
Strong experience handling high-acuity cases across specialties like neuro, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic spine, trauma and interventional procedures.
Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry and rhythm strips, including identifying heart blocks.
Must successfully pass telemetry exam on Day 1 with 84% or higher
Required Certifications:
BLS – Basic Life Support
ACLS – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in pediatric PACU nursing.
TNCC – Trauma Nursing Core Course certification.
Case Types You’ll Encounter:

Unit Details:
* Average **30–60 cases per day
* Unit operates **24/7** to support continuous post-op recovery
