Locum-to-Perm Advanced Practice Provider – Urgent Care (NP / PA)
Job description
Start Date & Duration: As soon as credentialed through permanent hire onboarding
Shift Schedule & Work Hours
Schedule: 3 shifts per week (Clinics open 7 days/week).
Shift Duration: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (12+ hour shifts depending on patient flow; required to treat all patients who arrive during clinic operating hours).
Weekend Requirements: Yes (as part of weekly rotation).
On-Call Requirements: None.
Facility & Clinical Overview
Practice Setting: 100% Outpatient Urgent Care Clinics across multiple Richmond-area locations.
Patient Population: Birth to death (Pediatric through Geriatric).
Patient Volume: 25 to 50 patients per day per clinic (volume increases during cold and flu season).
Acuity & Triage: Episodic urgent care; higher-acuity trauma or life-threatening cases must be stabilized and transferred to emergency departments.
EMR System: Epic.
Required Clinical Skills & Procedures
Laceration Repair: Simple, intermediate, and complex suturing/stapling.
Integumentary Procedures: Incision and drainage (I&D) with packing, foreign body removal, minor burn management, skin lesion care, and epistaxis management (anterior nasal packing / silver nitrate cautery).
Orthopedics & Trauma: Splinting, casting, joint reduction, and injury stabilization.
Diagnostics & Testing: X-ray interpretation, EKG evaluation, and point-of-care lab interpretation (Rapid Strep, Flu, COVID-19, RSV, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose).
Respiratory Care: Nebulizer administration and initial emergency airway stabilization.
Candidate Submission & Qualification Requirements
Licensure & Certifications:
Profession: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) [REQUIRED].
Board Status: Active National Board Certification [REQUIRED].
State Licensure: Active, unencumbered Virginia State License [REQUIRED].
Registrations & Life Support: Active DEA Registration and AHA BLS Certification [REQUIRED].
Clinical Experience & Background:
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of post-licensure clinical experience in an Urgent Care, Emergency Department, or Primary Care setting [REQUIRED].
Background History: Completely clean background with zero malpractice, suit, or licensing issues [REQUIRED — No exceptions].
