Locum-to-Perm Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA)

Job description

Schedule: 12+ Hour Shifts (8:00 AM – 8:00 PM; expected to stay until all arriving patients are seen) | Clinics open 7 days/week

Weekend Requirements: Yes

On-Call Requirements: None

Facility & Clinical Overview

Practice Setting: 100% Outpatient Urgent Care Clinics.

Patient Population: All ages (Birth to Death); varying clinic to clinic.

Patient Volume: 25 to 50 patients per day (volume increases during peak cold & flu seasons).

Acuity Level: Episodic acute care; higher-acuity emergencies are stabilized and transferred to hospital EDs.

EMR System: Epic

Coverage Scope: Floating coverage across multiple urgent care sites within the greater Richmond metro area.

Core Duties & Clinical Procedures

Minor Procedures: Simple, intermediate, and complex suturing/stapling, incision and drainage (I&D with packing), foreign body removal, minor burn care, and skin lesion management.

Orthopedics & Injury Care: Splinting, casting, joint reductions, and injury stabilization.

Diagnostics & Testing: X-ray preliminary interpretation, EKG evaluation, and point-of-care lab interpretation (rapid Strep, Flu, COVID-19, RSV, urinalysis, blood glucose).

General Acute Care: Epistaxis management (anterior nasal packing, silver nitrate cautery), cerumen impaction removal, nebulizer treatments, and initial emergency stabilization.

Candidate Submission & Qualification Requirements

Licensure & Certifications:

Board Certification: Active Board Certification as NP or PA [REQUIRED].

State Licensure: Active, unencumbered Virginia State License [REQUIRED].

DEA & BLS: Active Virginia DEA Registration and BLS certification [REQUIRED].

Clinical Experience & Background:

Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical experience in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, or Primary Care [REQUIRED].

Background: Clean background with no active malpractice or licensing issues—no exceptions [REQUIRED].

Logistics & Travel Restrictions:

Locality Requirement: Must be a local candidate or accept an all-inclusive rate (No travel, hotel, or mileage reimbursements provided) [REQUIRED].
