Position Details
Position: Anesthesiologist – Cardiothoracic Experience Preferred
Location: Minneapolis VA Health Care System, One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
Compensation: Up to $16,000 per week for qualifying cardiothoracic anesthesia expertise
Position Type: Long-Term Contract | Full-Time
Contract: Base Year + Four Option Years
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM, excluding Federal Holidays
Hours: Approximately 80 hours per two-week pay period
Call: Rotating on-call schedule, collaboratively coordinated
Lunch: 30-minute unpaid lunch break
About the Opportunity

The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking an experienced Anesthesiologist to provide high-quality anesthesia services for Veterans undergoing cardiothoracic and other complex surgical procedures.

The successful physician will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered perioperative care.

Key Responsibilities
Provide anesthesia services for cardiothoracic and other surgical procedures.
Conduct comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, including medical history reviews and physical assessments.
Develop individualized anesthesia plans in collaboration with surgeons and clinical teams.
Administer anesthesia and continuously monitor patients throughout surgical procedures.
Provide appropriate intra-operative and post-operative anesthesia care.
Recognize and respond effectively to anesthesia-related emergencies and critical events.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with VA standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote patient safety and positive outcomes.
Participate in quality improvement, peer collaboration, and clinical education activities as appropriate.
Follow VA policies, patient safety standards, infection-control procedures, and applicable federal regulations.

Note: Cardiac device implantation procedures, including pacemakers, LVADs, and defibrillators, may be encountered but are not considered a primary responsibility of this position.

Required Qualifications
M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
Board Certified in Anesthesiology.
Active, unrestricted medical license from any U.S. state or territory.
Experience practicing in hospital and surgical settings.
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered Veteran care.
Preferred Qualifications
Cardiothoracic anesthesia experience.
Experience supporting high-acuity or complex surgical programs.
Familiarity with VA, federal, or government healthcare environments.
Interest in quality improvement and clinical process initiatives.
