Level IV NICU NP/PA Opportunity – San Francisco Bay Area | 26-Week Assignment
Job description
A leading children's health system in the San Francisco Bay Area is seeking an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a 26-week locum assignment. Providers will care for critically ill newborns and infants in a Level IV NICU, working alongside neonatologists, surgeons, fellows, and APP colleagues in a highly collaborative environment.
This role focuses on the comprehensive management of newborns and infants with complex cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, and other life-threatening conditions. Providers may also receive cross-training to assist in the newborn nursery. ECMO patients are managed by fellows, though providers may care for patients before and immediately following ECMO support.
Start Date: 10/12/2026
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Schedule:
• Full-time only
• 3 x 12-hour shifts per week
• Days, nights, weekends, and holidays required
Practice Setting:
• Hospital-based
• Level IV NICU
• Float coverage across two children's hospitals as needed
Patient Population: Newborns through 1 year of age
Support Staff: Neonatologists, Pediatric surgeons, APP, Administrative support staff
EMR: Epic
Work Details:
• Primary responsibility for inpatient neonatal care
• Manage complex medical and surgical neonatal patients
• Participate as an integral member of the multidisciplinary NICU team
• May provide newborn nursery coverage following orientation
Requirements:
• Board Certified Neonatal NP or PA
• Active California license required
• Minimum 2–3 years of Level III/IV NICU experience
Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 26-week assignment; standard credentialing applies
